Competitiveness hubs

Five global hubs | Other hubs

Rooted in the regions

Through its schools and subsidiaries, The Institut Télécom is involved in ICST research development at all the main sites (Greater Paris, Brittany and PACA, as well as Lille and Toulouse). Its organization allows a country-wide theme-specific rationale to coexist with local synergy-nurturing endeavors. As a partner of research organizations, industrial firms and territorial communities, the Institut Télécom is playing an important role in efforts to structure regional hubs that have international exposure.

Competitiveness hubs

The Institut Télécom naturally took part in the efforts to build the competitiveness hubs, that DATAR started in November 2004. Based on a regional structure, these hubs represent a means of strengthening partnerships between businesses, education and public research and reinforcing innovation and job creation. In addition to having a high profile internationally, these competitiveness hubs will have an impact locally, the aim being to maintain employment and competitiveness.

On 12 July, the CIADT (Interdepartmental National and Regional Development Committee) labeled 67 competitiveness hubs, 15 of which have an international reach. The CIADT opted to reward some of the competitiveness hubs it labeled, as a mark of their importance for the visibility of French industry on the international stage and their weight in terms of global economic competition.

All the hub projects in which the Institut Télécom was involved were successful :

The Institut Télécom is a player in 5 hubs that are either global or have a global vocation
It is also a partner in 3 other hubs (2 of which are global)

This represents an opportunity for the Institut Télécom to reinforce its partnership momentum: the Institut Télécom is working alongside its major partners in these hubs (France Télécom, Thales, Alcatel, Motorola, EADS, SAGEM, ST Microelectronics, TF1, Lagardère, Thomson, INA, etc.) and will also collaborate with some new ones, including a significant number of SMEs. This will also help to reinforce the Institut Télécom's research strengths in the regions where its schools are located, and further raise its international profile.
