Partnerships with research organizations
Partnerships with universities,
CNRS and
other research organizations give rise to joint strategic reflection as well as transverse participation in research authorities (Scientific Advisory Board, National Committee, Assessment Committee, etc.).
Association with the CNRS
The first association with the CNRS dates back to 1982 with the Systems and Communications Department of Télécom ParisTech. In addition to the recognition it represents within the scientific community, association with the CNRS (National Scientific Research Center) means that CNRS researchers and engineers can work in the Institut Télécom's laboratories full-time, which is a significant asset. 26 CNRS researchers and engineers are currently on secondment to the school laboratories of the Institut Télécom.
The creation of the ICST department at the CNRS has strengthened its role in the organization and running of the academic research community in the field. Multidisciplinary themed networks (RTP), in which the Institut Télécom plays a pro-active role, represent an undeniable asset for structuring and coordinating.
On 25 June 2004, Marc Oberlé, General Director of the Institut Télécom, and Antoine Petit, Director of the ICST department of the CNRS, signed a collaboration agreement aimed at increasing scientific exchange between the two organizations.
The process provides for :
- the development of laboratory associations
- the launch of joint research programs
- the sharing of expertise in terms of technology transfer
- contribution to the visibility of French public research in the European research landscape
- the sharing of prospective analyses of development in the field.

The Institut Télécom and research organizations
The Institut Télécom enjoys sustained relations and collaborates with a number of other public research organizations. This collaboration takes various forms, including joint laboratories, scientific interest groups, joint projects. These partnerships are often formed in the context of a State-Region plan contract or supported by the local authorities.
INSERM :
- Télécom Bretagne, INSERM (National Health and Medical Research Institute) and the Brest regional university teaching hospital share the LaTIM Laboratory (Medical Information Processing Laboratory) ERM0102. LATIM is involved in the INSERM-CNRS framework agreement.
INRIA :
- Periodic meetings are held by senior staff from INRIA (French National Institute for Research in Computer Science and Control) and the Institut Télécom to review, in particular, scientific developments in the field of ICST. INRIA is one of the founding partners of the Sophia Antipolis uses laboratory, proposed by the Institut Télécom.
- Télécom Bretagne is involved, together with IRISA (Institut de Recherche en Informatique et en Systèmes Aléatoires or Research Institute for IT and Stochastic Systems) in the INRIA ARMOR (Architecture et modèle de réseaux or Architecture and networks' model) project. In addition, it co-runs CNRT TIM (Télécommunications, Image Multimédia Brest- Lannion-Rennes), managed by the director of IRISA.
IFREMER :
- Taking advantage of its geographic location, Télécom Bretagne collaborates with IFREMER (French Research Institute for Exploitation of the Sea), in particular, working on two projects in the context of the State-Region plan, concerning off-shore and submarine acoustics (information processing for the ocean and the environment).
DGA :
The Institut Télécom is very involved in ICST applications in the Defense field, therefore with the
DGA (Direction Générale de l'Armement, the French State arms authority). Research is conducted either in bi-lateral partnership - with GESMA (sonar imaging underwater communications) or CELAR (radar imaging, network security) – or within GIS TECHNET which federates public research laboratories from Western France working in the field of telecommunications and electronics applied to military systems. Télécom Bretagne is responsible for the scientific management of this group.
