Research Networks and Partnerships


Institut Télécom plays a leading role in the collaborations that are the backbone of French information and communication sciences and technologies: more than 75% of research laboratories are mixed units working with the CNRS and almost two-thirds of projects fall within the framework of research in partnership with economic and societal players.

 

Academic Partnerships

 

Partnerships with research organizations

In France, Institut Télécom has established collaboration with the leading research organizations, such as joint laboratories with the CNRS and INSERM. The schools also cooperate with the INRIA, IFREMER, DGA and universities such as Paris 6, Rennes 1, Évry, Western Brittany, Southern Brittany and Nice within the framework of regional programs and competitiveness clusters.


Internationally, Institut Télécom also conducts an active partnership policy with research bodies and institutes.
Here are some examples:

  •  Télécom Paristech, the DLR (Germany) and the CNES have created a joint laboratory with a teaching and research chair in interpreting satellite images,
  • institutional ties have been established with the Fraunhofer Institutes in Germany, in particular within the framework of the Carnot Institutes Association,
  • Institut Télécom signed an agreement in 2005 with the NICT, a Japanese research body in the field of information and communication technologies,
  • Eurecom is international by essence, and conducts a research partnership policy with the leading European teaching and research institutions: Lausanne Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale (Switzerland), Zürich Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale (Switzerland), Politecnico Torino (Italy), Technische Universtät München (Germany)  Helsinki Technological Institute (Finland), and Norwegian University of Science and technology.

Joint research laboratories

The laboratories bring together researchers from public bodies and corporations to work on specific scientific themes corresponding to major technological issues of society. Thanks to the wealth of corporate contacts they have, the Institut Telecom and its schools have partnered several joint laboratories in the domains of the internet of the future, security, ubiquitous media, decision-making computer science, etc.

Industrial partnerships

Industrial partnerships have been ingrained in the DNA of the Institut Telecom since its foundation in 1997.

Through partnership framework contracts and with the help of the Fondation Telecom, the Institut Telecom and its satellite institutions enjoy constant, close ties with industry-leading international businesses: Accenture, Alcatel Lucent, BMW Group Company, BNP Paribas, Bouygues Telecom, Cisco Systems, EADS, France Telecom/Orange, Hitachi, Mitsubishi Electric ITCE, Motorola, SFR, Sharp, ST Microelectronics, Swisscom, Thales, Technicolor, etc.

The Institut Telecom is also a committed partner of a vast number of small and medium-sized businesses working in the telecommunications sector. In 2009, the Institut Telecom founded its own SME Club, which already boasts a membership of more than fifty small and medium-sized businesses.
Institut Telecom also contributes to the ‘Innovation Academy’ program, which offers smaller businesses specialist training to help them learn the fundamental principles of innovation partnerships.


Under the aegis of the Fondation de France, the Fondation Telecom groups together businesses who wish to collaborate with the Institut Telecom to tackle the ever-changing industrial, economic and social challenges posed by the digital society in which we live. The Fondation supports and finances collaborative programs and projects launched with our partners (including founding partners Alcatel Lucent, BNP Paribas, France Telecom-Orange and SFR) in the fields of training, research, innovation and future planning.

  • In April 2011, the Institut Telecom, its subsidiary Eurecom, Telecom St-Etienne, the ENSPS, the LIX and CMAP labs of the Ecole Polytechnique, and Strate College were jointly awarded the Carnot label for the quality of their research in partnership, under the umbrella name Institut Carnot Télécom & Société Numérique.
