The Institut Télécom and the Information Society
Government policy and authorities in charge of the Institut Télécom
Since 1998, the State has had a governmental action program for the information society in place setting out those projects to be given priority in the fields of education as well as access, research and e-administration.
The program, relayed by CISI (Interministerial Committees for the Information Society) meetings, is supported by various institutions including the CGIET and the DIGITIP, the authorities in charge of the Institut Télécom.
The Institut Télécom at the heart of the information society
The information society refers to the fundamental changes that have led to the convergence of telecommunications, audiovisual and information technologies. The transition from telecommunications to information technologies brings about many changes affecting technologies, equipment and uses. The advent of the information society leads to a significant increase in the requirements for expertise in the field of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). It means that national industries are obliged to innovate on a permanent basis, relying in particular on the dynamism of public research.
Its mission to provide a public teaching and research service places the Institut Télécom at the very heart of the major challenge that mastering ICT represents for the community.
