Profession Reference System

Profession data sheets | Cartography

Set up in 2000, the profession reference system is an analysis tool to help future graduates make decisions concerning their chosen career path. Promoting a functional and transverse approach, the reference system provides data sheets covering the main openings for engineers and managers from the Institut Télécom's schools and offers a global panorama of these.

Panorama and cartography of ICT professions

The reference system provides a panorama of demand from businesses: manufacturers, service companies, operators, users, consultants. It also deals with the rather less well defined emerging professions, arising from transformations in information and communication technologies.

Possible cartography of professions in a user company

This presents links between the principal networks and telecommunications professions found in user companies, suppliers and service companies.

For its requirements in terms of ICT, a business can draw on internal expertise (first circle) or external expertise represented by concentric circles: services and consultancy firms, telecommunications operators, manufacturers. Typical internal expertise has varying degrees of contact (special professional exchanges) with professions present in service provider companies. Outsourcing movements may lead to some professions migrating to service providers. Highly demanded professions and emerging professions are highlighted.
