The archive space of the Institut Télécom

What are archives?

Archives are all the documents produced or received by any natural person or legal entity and by any public or private department or organisation in the exercise of its activities. Storage of these documents is organised in the public interest, both for the requirements of management and proof of individual rights and for the purpose of historical documentation of research.
Why archives?

@rchivithèque

@rchivithèque is the name giving to the archives activity at the Institut Télécom. This activity consists of 4 archive managers and almost 70 correspondents.

@rchivithèque offers:
- a presentation of archives
- historical tools including information useful for any historical research using the archives of the Institut Télécom
- a selection of useful links on archives
- a presentation of the main challenges for building the archives of tomorrow
- a few basic bibliographic elements for an introduction to the world of archives
- some archiving rules and a technical glossary

GET’s archive collection can be consulted by contacting Renaud Mounier.

The collection includes the following:
- administrative documents (human resources, accounting, public contracts, heritage and logistics, etc.)
- reports by GET bodies (Board of Directors, etc.)
- presentation brochures and journals, etc.

Some resources may be of particular interest:
- documents relative to the international initiatives carried out by the various bodies leading the telecommunications schools
- the resources of the 'Telecommunications techniques and sciences' collection (CTST collection)

The Institut Télécom and public archives

Law No. 79-18 of 3 January 1979 stipulates the rules governing the creation of public archives.

By the terms of this, the Institut Télécom has been attached to the National Archives since April 2000, and, more specifically, to the Department of Contemporary Archives via the Missions Department. Within this department, the Heritage curator in charge of monitoring relations with public bodies advises GET and authorises the destruction of archives.

Within this department, Mr. Laurent Ferri, Heritage curator in charge of handling relations with public bodies, authorises requests to destroy archives and advises the Institut Télécom.

In this context, the Institut Télécom set up a process aimed at specifying the work to be carried out in terms of coordination of the archives of each entity in 2000:
- to set the rules for inventory-making and organisation and to monitor progress,
- to draw up elements for a GET archive management policy.
