GET celebrates its 10th anniversary !In 2007, GET celebrates its 10th anniversary, although it boasts a history of over a century, marked with the invention in 1904 of the word telecommunication by Édouard Estaunié, then director of what ultimately resulted in the creation of GET's schools. As a celebration of this event, GET organized a conference, held on Friday 29 June 2007 at the Palais Iéna in Paris, open to all its partners and focusing on the theme of Knowledge Society and Digital Life: meaning, challenges and the future, together with the presentation of a Green Paper on this issue. |
A major player in higher education and research in the field of ICSTIn 1997, when France Télécom became a partially privatized company, GET was founded as an administrative state institution (under the supervision of the Minister for telecommunication), in order to maintain a strong public-sector system providing higher education in the field of telecommunications. For Pascal Faure, Chairman of GET's Board of Directors and Vice-President of the Information technologies departmental council: "In 10 years, GET has developed remarkably. The Group, made up of Télécom Paris, ENST Bretagne, Télécom INT, INT Management within INT and two subsidiaries Télécom Lille 1 and Eurécom, has become a major player in the fields of education and research in Information and Communication Science and Technology (ICST)".
