Télécom Bretagne launches a series of videos “La Minute du Chercheur” (One Minute for Research) This new series of videos is devoted to the research activities in the various departments. In less than 2 minutes, a research professor presents a simulation or an experiment to illustrate an aspect of the technology used in their department. A quick and easy way to discover what goes on behind the doors of our laboratories! Every month, a new video will be put on-line on the Télécom Bretagne website and on the YouTube and DailyMotion platforms. > Two videos are currently available on-line (infrench): Test bench to determine the permittivity of a material by Alain Péden from the Microwave department; Internet communication by infra-red single-mode fibre optics by Bruno Fracasso from the Optics department. |

“Technologies de contrôle dans la mondialisation : enjeux politiques,
éthiques et esthétiques” (Control technologies in globalization:
political, ethical and aesthetic issues) This work, published in November 2009 by Kimé, is an interdisciplinary study (philosophy, political science, history and literature) of migration and communication control systems in modern societies, and their impact on democracies and individuals in a context of globalization and through the analysis of various political, ethical and aesthetic issues. This work was edited by Pierre-Antoine Chardel, Assistant Professor at Télécom Management School and Associate Researcher at CERSES (Centre for research into Senses, Ethics and Society, CNRS/University Paris Descartes) and Gabriel Rockhill, philosopher, Assistant Professor at the University of Villanova in Philadelphia (USA) and Director of the Critical Theory Workshop at the Centre Parisien d'Etudes Critiques (Parisian Centre of Critical Studies). The first stone of the future ICST Campus at Sophia Antipolis On 14 December 2009, all the stakeholders in the ICST Campus met on the site of the future campus buildings at Sophia Antipolis. The official ceremony to lay the first stone, in the presence of representatives of the State, regional and local authorities, officially marked the commitment of the various partners to this major project. The Campus will enable EURECOM to accelerate its development through to 2012 and reinforce the representation of the Institut Télécom in the Alpes Maritimes region. First and foremost, it is a scientific project that is shared with the University of Nice Sophia Antipolis, the INRIA and CNRS, with the aim of uniting and pooling information technology teaching and research forces for the greater benefit of students from all over the world, who will be coming to work in the new center, thereby enhancing even further the level of excellence of Sophia Antipolis. The Institut Télécom at the IDATE DigiWorld Summit on 18 and 19 November
At the meeting point between two worlds – ICT and health, research and industry – the Institut Télécom, Montpellier 2 University and the Montpellier Computer, Robotics and Microelectronics Laboratory are organizing the @health – Advanced Technologies for Health Conference on 18 and 19 November 2009, at the Corum in Montpellier.
These gatherings are being held within the framework of the DigiWorld Summit 2009, a major event in ICT, with the support of the IDATE, Montpellier 1 University, the Eurobiomed Competitiveness Cluster, the Languedoc-Roussillon Region and Montpellier Conurbation.

ITST Conference from 20 to 22 October
The forthcoming edition of the international ITST (Intelligent Transport Systems Telecommunications) conference will be taking place from 20 to 22 October 2009 in Lille, at the Nouveau Siècle congress center. This event is organized by the INRETS and the NICT, with the support of Télécom Lille 1 and Télécom Bretagne, and is open to all protagonists concerned, researchers and industrialists. The theme of the conference this year is "The new information and communication technologies to enhance traffic efficiency and optimize transport modes under safety and security constraints", and it is an opportunity to present the research conducted at the Institut Télécom in this field, in particular relating to radar, modeling of propagation channels and target monitoring.

MonExTel.com is a new business start-up by two Télécom Ecole de Management graduates and a graduate of TélécomSudParis. This firm offers web users the opportunity of recycling their old mobile phones and giving the proceeds of their residual value to the association of their choice.
This innovative concept makes MonExTel.com a brand new service in sustainable development. With supportive online recycling as its theme, MonExTel.com was incubated on the campus, won backing from the Fondation Télécom, and was awarded the Prix Médicis for micro-enterprises.

Inauguration of ParisTech Entrepreneurs
On 16 September 2009, Jean-Louis Missika, Deputy Mayor of Paris and in charge of Innovation, Research and Universities, inaugurated ParisTech Entrepreneurs, the new ParisTech incubator at 9, Rue Dareau, Paris (14th arrondissement).
Built on the strength of the successes of the incubators of Télécom ParisTech, an Institut Télécom school, and backed by Paris City Hall, this structure intends to become a genuine lever in the development of Paris.

16 September 2009: An ANR chair of excellence in information theory for an Institut Télécom professor
Aslan Tchamkerten, a professor at Télécom ParisTech, has been awarded an ANR (national research agency) long-term junior chair of excellence. The Chair will allow this young Swiss to recruit PHD and post-graduate students in order to continue research into information theory and sequential analysis.
